Studying Social Tagging and Folksonomy: A Review and Framework
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper reviews research into social tagging and folksonomy (as reflected in about 180 sources published through December 2007). Methods of researching the contribution of social tagging and folksonomy are described, and outstanding research questions are presented. This is a new area of research, where theoretical perspectives and relevant research methods are only now being defined. This paper provides a framework for the study of folksonomy, tagging and social tagging systems. Three broad approaches are identified, focusing first, on the folksonomy itself (and the role of user tags in indexing and retrieval); secondly, on tagging (and the behaviour of users); and thirdly, on the nature of social tagging systems (as socio-technical frameworks).

Exploring the potential for social tagging and folksonomy in art museums: Proof of concept
Documentation of art museum collections has been traditionally written by and for art historians. To make art museum collections broadly accessible, and to enable art museums to engage their communities, means of access need to reflect the perspectives of other groups and communities. Social Tagging (the collective assignment of keywords to resources) and its resulting Folksonomy (the assemblag...
متن کاملContextualization, user modeling and personalization in the social web: from social tagging via context to cross-system user modeling and personalization
Social Web stands for the culture of participation and collaboration on the Web. Structures emerge from social interactions: social tagging enables a community of users to assign freely chosen keywords to Web resources. The structure that evolves from social tagging is called folksonomy and recent research has shown that the exploitation of folksonomy structures is beneficial to information sys...
متن کاملThe Semantics of Folksonomies: The Meaning in Social Tagging
In this document we review some key observations about the use of naive user tagging in organizing electronic resources, and the possible advantages they display over rigid classification. We report on aggregated views of communal tags and review arguments concerning the relationship between folksonomy (the emergent process of communal classification) and formal ontology, rejecting the strong v...
متن کاملFolksonomy and Designing: an Exploration
This paper discusses the role of folksonomy in a product design scenario. The focus is on developing a framework for design retrieval using a folksonomic approach and on the emergence of a design taxonomy through user tagging. We analyze the potential uses of a design folksonomy and its relation to current design research. We specifically relate the folksonomy to design representation models, d...
متن کاملSocially enhanced search and exploration in social tagging networks
Social tagging networks have become highly popular for publishing and searching contents. Users in such networks can review, rate and comment on contents, or annotate them with keywords (social tags) to give short but exact text representations of even non-textual contents. In addition, there is an inherent support for interactions and relationships among users. Thus, users naturally form group...
